Leah

The crib and dresser are pretty much done.  I think maybe another coat of poly and the crib needs to be put together.  I didn't think I should share the finished product until Tim and Jody got to see it, but I will share the precious little girl that will be using it.

RELAX!

Earlier this summer there were some doubters (me) that wondered if Jim had left starting the crib and dresser a little too late.  Well, we (I know there were others) can all relax, things are moving along right on schedule.  That is the baby and the crib/dresser are right on schedule.  Jim started the staining process this week.  He uses a wood condition first, a coat of stain brushed on and wiped off, then to be followed by multiple coats of clear polyurethane.  I think these pictures are lighter than it really is.

Dedicated

Last week on Tuesday night as we finished supper our electricity went out and you could tell it was going to be out for awhile.  The outage was actually due to an auto accident and it was a wide spread area that was effected, so Barr Township wasn't first on the repair list.
Jim didn't let a little power outage keep him from his appointed duties!

Notice the flashlight in the background.
Camping lantern really didn't help much in that large of space.
I guess this is how the Amish have to work.  Maybe he needs to put in some gas lights.

Work Continues, Blogger Lags Behind

Even though the blogger was fallen behind in keeping up to date on the progress of the baby bed and dresser, Jim has continued working faithfully and making great progress.

Took a break to go to Kansas for the weekend and take in the K-State game at Arrowhead.  A little warm for a football game, but got a KSU victory.
Gluing boards for dresser top.
Dresser top glued up and sanded.
I missed a few steps, but dresser mostly together.
Working on drawer slides.
Looks like they work.

Labor Day Weekend

Sally and Dan needed someone to watch Trent on Friday, so Jim decided to add a day to his weekend and came along for a fun day with Trent. It was a perfect day for a visit to see the Clydesdale's home.  We had a great time.

Papa Jim and Trent checking out Jerry.
This was one of the young colts in the outside pen enjoying the great weather.
Back to work in the shop on Saturday.
Just in case you wonder why Jim always has clamps on his Christmas list!
Dresser top
Jim has decided if he didn't have to go to work, he could really get a lot accomplished.  Besides working on the bed/dresser he ran weed-eater, worked in the office and watched a little Illinois, K-State and the Cardinals.

Weekend Update

Jim was on his own in the workshop this weekend as I took a road trip to Kansas.  I don't want it to make it seem like I help out in the workshop, but I do pass through occasionally to take pictures and make sure everything is going smoothly.
Stopped along the way to take this picture to show Meme.
The real reason for the trip was to attend a baby shower for Jody in Salina.
Jody had more help the she probably needed.
While I was gallivanting around Illinois, Missouri & Kansas, Jim was going about business as usual and has now finished constructing all the parts of the bed and,
has now moved on to the dresser/changing table.  He has starting cutting out the pieces and making some of the moldings so far.

Papa Jim's Workshop

Welcome to Jim's workshop.
It is usually this neat and clean even when he has a project going.

The cabinets on both side of the shop he made.  He has all the comforts of home in the shop, heat, air conditioning, radio and TV.  The only things missing is a refridgerator.

This is the lumber for the project that he is starting that bumped the kitchen off the front burner.

Lots of long boards and several sheets of plywood.  He made a trip to St. Charles Hardwoods to make this purchase.
What's this?

Jim hard at work.

Any guess on what he is working on.

You guessed it, a baby bed for Tim and Jody's baby due in October.
This is Trent's bed that Jim made in 2007.  The new bed will be like this but a different type of wood.  There is also a dresser to match.

Daisy is keeping an eye on progress.

Things taking shape.

Looking good.

Lots of sanding in this shot.

Now things are taking shape.
Will keep you up to date as things progress
